Huari

Greetings from Huari. the bus ride here was so scary the police boarded it twice looking for drugs and checking ids and to top it off the bus broke down twice on these tiny little unpaved mountain roads. we made it! i have have no cell service here and no real access to internet. yesterday i spent in Huaraz with bebel and jillian, another american on the adventure. Jillian and i went to the markeyt and i was brave and bought fruit, mandrins, pineapple and pomegranate. they have thick skins so they are pretty safe. we got to see a collection of mummies which was not open to the public yesterday in Huaraz. It was awesome. I will post pictures when i can. the museum hasa huge collection of moche, chavin chimu and huari ceramice all of which i got to see. today jilian and i are going on a hike in huari in preparation for a trek we are going on while bebel is in Lima next week. the altitude is not too bad but i do feel a little weak. Bebel´s mother thinks I am going to starve , all i´ll eat is potatos bread, some fruit eggs and chicken and not much of anything. I´m going to shrink. I HAVEN´T HAD A SHOWER IN 3 DAYS YUCK! Also they have a cat eating festival in Huari. GROSS. bye for now

so tomorrow i get to sort and glue back together ceramics. creating an entire vessels from a little tiny piece of ceramics. doesn´t get any better

Lima

where i am staying in Lima reminds me ofthe pictures you see of the shanty town area of Rio de Jeniero Brazil. The houses have openings in the roofs because it never rains here. I´m probably one of the few americans who have ever stayed in this part of Lima. I spent the entire day runnig around Lima with Bebel trying to get things accomplished before we leave for Huari. That entails a 10 hour bus ride which we will depart for at 10pm tonight. I´m sure it will be very exciting. Bebel and his family are very nice. Bebel thinks I can´t live without my cellphone and internet. He told me not to wear my TAG watch because street theives will steal it. the joys of travel

culture shock

can you say culture shock.... i get here last night, bebel gets stuck in immigration and i am left with his friends who speak no english. they take me to the house in lima. the entire time we are in the car, one of the tiny ones that remind me of cars clowns use that more and more keep getting out of, they are trying to speak to me in spanish. it was comical. i get to the house, and its basically rooms stacked on top of each other, no heat. i get up this mornming and all i want is a hot shower..... which is not a possibilty. it´s going to be an adventure....

reason not to go to REI

So I go buy a nice hiking pack from REI and get it home only to find dirty underwear in it! At least they took it back and upgraded me to a bigger one. Even with the bigger one I can't fit all my stuff in it! I leave tomorrow! And I now have a power of attorney signed and notorized so Cory can't yell at me! Back to packing. Do you think I should bring a roll of toilet paper?

blackberrys why

what makes blackberrys so wonderful? they can't take pictures, they are a pain in the neck to use so why does everyone say the are wonderfu? beats me. i got to flat bam bam again today! i think i'll learn alot from him and marshall. by the way marshall is determined to make me ride with a straight back versus roaching it like i've done for years. this should be good! one more day of life as i know it!

A new pony baby!

Gracie had her baby today! Another chestnut pony filly! And I get to experience the show shack for the first time. Only 2 days before the mountain adventure begins!

nothing done

i have 5 days before i leave my life as i know it for the mountain and i have nothing done. my lawsuit isn't settled, imagine that. my laptop that i need for the site is in shanhai still, gotta love fedex! And my house isn't finished. And the shop isn't sold yet. such is life. I can't wait to get on the plane. it will be a vacation, no cell phones and no crazy horse people. what a relief!
